EU 'Green' Plans Add £300 To Motoring

Brussels wants new eco-tyres, tyre-pressure equipment, and electronic stability control to come standard on new cars potentially adding £300 to the cost of a new car. The demands to manufacturers are part of EU plans that the motor industry cut its carbon emissions to an average of 120 grams of CO2 per kilometre.

These ideas are all good and well but in the current costly climate for motorists they are just an additional burden. The EU would do well to its beak elsewhere. National governments should consider these features and implement low-tax incentives if they seriously intend to influence consumer and motorist choices to adopt greener behaviours. As always with European demands and Labour's implementation we are given the stick and not the carrot. The incentives must be there to encourage the purchase of greener cars rather than yet another stealth tax wrapped up as a 'green' tax.

BBC Accused Of EU Bias For Soft Loans

The BBC faced accusations of pro-Brussels bias after it was revealed that the corporation had taken out three "soft" loans totalling £141m from the European Union. The BBC had also received grants from the EU worth £1.4m over the past five years. The BBC is funded by the £3.5 billion a year licence fee.

The Truth About The EU Reform Treaty

EU President & Legislation The Reform Treaty would be self-amending, increasing the EU President’s powers eventually becoming an elected position. The powers of the EU could be further increased without the need for new treaties. Public Services The Reform Treaty gives the EU control over public health, regulating medical standards. Foreign Policy & Embassies The ‘High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy’ will represent the UK at the UN Security Council. They will oversee an EU Embassy in every major City replacing our existing diplomatic service. The Economy Brussels will co-ordinate economic, social and employment policy for all member states. The European Central Bank would govern British banks and have some control over Bank of England decision making. This would inevitably pave the way for the Euro single currency. Vetoes Britain would lose a veto in 60 areas including independence over police, justice, energy, transport, employment, health, and financial regulation – affecting our everyday lives. The Charter of Fundamental Rights, the Courts, and Law & Order The Treaty restricts the ability to fight crime and punish those found guilty by giving more rights to criminals. EU judges would be able to overrule tougher sentences recommended by the Justice Secretary. Immigration The new ‘Charter of Fundamental Rights’ will make it almost impossible to deport troublemakers and criminals and stop them bringing families to the UK. Proposals in the Reform Treaty mean even more costly asylum and immigration appeals. The European Court of Justice would rule on whether applicants should gain asylum and their rights to welfare payments. EU Army Britain no longer defended by HM Armed Forces; currently doing an impossible job thanks to Tony Blair, with one arm behind their back thanks to Gordon Brown. Instead Britain would be defended by services comprising the EU states?

EU Costs UK Over £60bn A Year

Gerard Batten, UKIP MEP for London, has reported that the UK has made contributions to the EC budget of almost £214bn gross or over £66bn net; and leaving the EU would put Britain in a very strong position to establish a trading agreement with the EU.
